Some projects you just need to start. They may not be perfect as they mature, but at least they have been started.

This website is a case in point. Ultimately I will be curating a lot of content that I have developed over the years in Cyber/IPA, along with reflections and analysis of third-party content.

Meantime, sit back and relax in the back of the C-17, and have a box of Kyrgyz pineapple juice. Enjoy. 

CYBER: INFOSEC, PRIVACY AND AI LAW (IPA, although I prefer a good stout)

“Cyber” has become a gloss for anything data related. It comes from the Greek κυβερνήτες (kubernetes), meaning steersman or governor.  I was taught this by one of my CISSP instructors, and it impressed me as one of those very cool cross-cultural connections we stumble across from time to time. (The transliteration is, of course, awful, as they all are, but that is a different topic for a different day.)

Anyway, the definition makes sense.  If you appreciate that “cyber” is a meta reality beyond ours (think of the Tron movies), the cyber layer does steer many things in reality in a profound and leveraged way.

Cyber law is a convergence of many disciplines: technology, criminal law, privacy, intelligence oversight, the law of armed conflict.  In the military we regard cyber as a domain coequal with air, space, land and sea.  To really understand cyber law one needs to embrace this domain concept.  Once understood, the history and reasoning behind cyber law begins to make intuitive sense.
